Yep you get your own ship as your player house in The Old Republic.

The way it works is a bit like Mass Effect but it looks like you get hangers on planets, not sure if the ship will be seamless enter / exit from the hanger but its a nice touch than say just appearing on the planet like I have no life.

Space travel will most likely be like Mass Effect as well, no real time piloting the ship like I have no life.

Still it looks neat and I hope you can customize it quite a bit.

This was released recently, it shows some 5 man content from the game:

http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/e3-multiplayer-demo

On the surface, kind of standard MMO dungeon but theres a quite a few things that stand out:

1# Minor roleplaying aspects. It looks like there is party conversations where each person can choose what they wish to say.
2# Ranged tank that isn't kiting.
3# Ranged combat that doesn't look lame.
4# Cover system.
5# Healer thats still fighting and healing.
6# Enemy Jedi that require another Jedi to off tank.

This battle looks like a minor mini boss fight but even still it seems fun and dynamic, not like the heavly scripted battles warcraft has turned into.

Dungeons are some of the worst things you can add to a MMO because they are so static and linear. After a while they become treadmills which only 2 people need to be awake, the Tank and the Healer. Warcraft has become this and its killed the game for me, but hopefully the 5 man content in TOR will more interesting like this video shows.

You can fly your ships in space and use them in combat. So this game can now call itself STARWars. Just hope its not a crappy minigame where you shoot space fish from your turret like Kotor.

Also they have announced a cat race:

Sadly they look like space elfs, now if only they made them look like this ( Found on Wookiepedia under Cathar section ):

Space combat details came out today and it doesn't sound good:

1# Its on the rails shooter.
2# They are treating it like a mini game.

So it might just turn out like the annoying turret game from Kotor. I really hoped for a bit more than that. Why can't someone make a freelancer style game for there MMO. 3rd person, easy to play, twichy and spammy weapons but with freedom to do what you want.

Freelancer was great.

More offical details are out.

It is a 'Tunnel Shooter' which doesn't really have any meaning.

Quote:
In a tunnel shooter, players will be able to move ships up, down, left and right, although their overall course is locked in by the scenario in question.

That to me sounds like you can't control the camera and you have some crappy shoot em up game that should have died in the 80's but nintendo made Starfox instead.

Quote:
Space combat hotspots will be unlocked as players progress through the game, and while they'll initially be solo instances only, eventually BioWare hopes to implement PvP and team combat in the future.

Solo instances ........ gets even worse. I have a feeling that space is something you do once then never touch again. I was hoping for something a bit like STO or I have no life but all we get is KoToR.

It is what I feared:

Bioware have gone full circle and brought us back to the days of CDRom's and 486 computers where the top machines around:

I don't mind the 3rd person view, just make it more like freelancer than a rail shooter side show. Battlefront 2 made for epic space battles, until Starr sneaked up behind you and stabbed you in the back while you were in a turret.
