And while it problery not the first, its great they are going 3rd person. I can never understand why Dota clones are always top down, there is no reasion what so ever not to explore a 3rd person mode.

Trion announces ArcheAge Free To Play

Finally some good news after the whole greedy ZeniMax euro thing.

ArcheAge will be free to play in the west.

"Both Trion Worlds and XLGAMES want ArcheAge to be a free-to-play sandbox that fits our 'no tricks, no traps' vision and will make development decisions to achieve that goal in Trion's territories."

 This games back on my radar again. 

We all own Warframe

Just a spin on the title of I now own Warframe, as this is a free to play game on steam. So we all have it.

I am still not quite sure what to think of the game. I have put 6 hours into which these days is classed as a compiling FPS experience, but in the scale of warframe I am still a complete noob. Where abouts if this was Call of duty the end credits would have finished a hour ago .....

Rift to go Free to Play

Rift is the hero child for subscription fanboys. I myself could never understand how they lasted this long. The game is super generic and even its claim to fame with its invasions has been passed by other games public quests.

The game was already double dipping with a Cash Store which is a big no no for me.

So will I play it, problery not, I got to level 30 I think and that was enough. I don't think the lure of housing will draw me in. Not when there are far superior 100% F2P games out there now like Neverwinter / Star Trek Online or B2P Guildwars 2.

The plague of free to play is spreading.

Lock boxes that require keys to unlock.

Where do you get the keys ?

At the cash shop of cause.

Star Trek Online features this and now so does Lord of the Rings Online. Team Fortress 2 has also been doing it for a while now.

To me, this is gambling and very dangerous so I will not support any system that implements it. My fear is that Guildwars 2 will do something similar.

Everquest 1 Free to play

Following after Everquest 2 Sony have announced the orginal will also go free to play soon.

The question I have is, when will vanguard go free to play ?

The free to play version isn't bad, but the subscription version doesn't have much incentive.

About the only thing that makes it tempting is the 400 C-Points a month.

This makes me wonder if C-Store items are going to go up in price. Because after 4 months you could get a free ship.

I also hope that legacy subscribers keep there bag, bank slots etc.

Star Trek Online to go Free to play

Its confirmed, Star Trek Online will be free to play later this year:

"Cryptic is working on the free-to-play model for Star Trek Online," Perfect World Entertainment's CEO, Kelvin Lau

Any more details, I do not know but this was predictable. The way I see it, any game that offers a life time sub is going to go free to play. This is because once your lifers have reached a certain point then they become leeches and aren't adding to profits.

I just hope they do the free to play model right. I am happy to pay a sub to that game but it has to be worth it.

Dota 2 Trailer

Its hard to tell if parts of this trailer is done with the engine or not but this is the first look at Dota 2:

Team fortress 2 is Free to play

That is, you can now just download the game for free and play. Just fire up steam and download. Hats aren't free, but hats don't cost $20 - $69 and its just hats.

Sounds like City of Hero's is going free to play. Haven't had time to check up on all the details.

Fallen Earth is going free to play

The post apoclitpic MMO is going free to play, this makes sense as its one of the double dipping MMOS ( Monthly Fee / Cash store ). Going Free to play makes it more attactive, it sounds like there is going to still be a subscription fee for full content but this is the best way to do a MMO theses days.

When I have the time and the bandwidth I'll check it out.
